We all know that Pinterest is taken over with wedding stuff, but Lover.ly takes the cake (pardon the pun). I stumbled upon this amazing not so little website on Mashable as they were comparing it to Pinterest.

Kellee Khalil, founder of Lover.ly, moved to New York City from Los Angeles two years ago to work with her sister at a bridal public relations company. Khalil was asked to be the maid of honor for her sister’s wedding. As she was coming up with ideas from wedding blogs and sharing her ideas with the bridesmaids, she found difficult organizing everything so she wanted to come up with another way. That’s when she came up with Lover.ly. It is based in New York with only seven employees. I love it!

“We are trying to make wedding planning online easier and image discovery better,” Khalil said.

So now you’re asking, how is this different from Pinterest? Lover.ly does not allow its users to upload their own pictures so the site will stay searchable and beautiful. Unlike Pinterest, the site works with 32 wedding blog partners such as Wedding Chicks, Snippet & Ink, The Brides Cafe and famous wedding planner, Mindy Weiss.-Mashable

A really great wedding planner that I personally know, Kelly Absher with K.S. Absher Social & Event Planning, uses Lover.ly as a place for “great ideas and inspiration” because he too, recognizes the great resource. So we’ve all had those just blah days where you’re just pissed off for no reason. Somedays you’re pissed of for a reason. Either way, I have learned that dwelling on it is just a big fat waste of time. Recently, I have totally been going through this and there are many ways to deal with it. In my case, I went to Coffee and Chocolate-literally. In Knoxville, there is the cutest coffee shop called Coffee and Chocolate. They sell the most amazing coffees and a beautiful array of chocolates. It only took a little something like that and my day was instantly brightened. There are tons and tons of little places like this in every city, so you need to find one that you love! What are some of the places you like to go to in your cities?

Social Media in Fashion

Social media has been steadily growing over the past few years, and you’re crazy if you don’t think it’s in fashion. Victoria’s Secret Pink collection already has over 11.7 million likes on its Facebook page, Marc Jacobs Intl is huge on foursquare and Twitter, and bloggers have taken brands to the next level through their blogs, Facebooks, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.

Specifically, I follow The Man Repeller’s blog and Instagram. She is awesome and partners with Dannijo in almost all of her Instagram posts. This not only leads you to follow her, but also Dannijo by association. This shows you how important word-of-mouth through social media is now. We are no longer getting this kind of information through traditional media, but are finding it in our heavy online presence.

What social media platforms do you follow to find out what’s going on in fashion? Also, I’m curious to see who uses Pinterest for finding out about fashion. I sometimes see what someone pinned and go to the blog and start following them, but that is rare. What do you all do?

Facebook Buys Instagram

Facebook is already this kind of mega giant in the social media world, and is therefore a a big part in people’s daily lives. Instagram has been a mobile social media platform for iPhone users, but also became available for Android users last week. Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion because of the vast number of users. Representatives said that this is the first time they have bought such a large user-base and will probably be the last.

Facebook officials say that they “do not want to take over,” but want to have the great picture quality of Instagram available to its users, since Facebook is used a large percentage of the time for pictures and picture sharing.

“We will try to learn from Instagram’s experience to build similar features into our other products,” Zuckerberg said. “At the same time, we will try to help Instagram continue to grow by using Facebook’s strong engineering team and infrastructure.”

I think that it was only a matter of time before this happened, but I still don’t like all of the power that Facebook has. I don’t want to delete my Instagram, but I don’t want tit to be a thing I sign over my privacy to. What do you think?

Shark/Ray Alley Belize

I recently went for a vacation to Belize and of course, could not stay out of the water. Tourism is the number one industry for the island, which means that there are numerous activities for you. My favorite is snorkeling/scuba diving and Ambergris Caye, Belize is the perfect place to do it.

I found it really interesting that this third world country has also found the need to adopt to social media for promoting as all the shops, especially scuba and snorkeling, have Facebook pages. The boats even have the Facebook symbol as a sticker beside their names. I went to Belize to “get away from it all (social media included)” and I ended up still immersed in our generations culture of constant social media use for advertising. I understand business models and these companies being the country’s livelihood, but what do you think about this never being able to escape feeling?

Finally Instagram is available for Android users. “The Android app offers an extremely familiar Instagram experience when compared to the iOS app,” Instagram said in its announcement Tuesday. “You’ll find all the same exact filters and community as our iOS version.”-Mashable

It is very similar to the iphone’s Instagram, but with only two differences:

1. Disadvantage: There is no tilt shift option which lets you highlight one specific area of the photo.

2. Advantage: Android users actually a feature that iPhone users do not, and that is an advanced camera feature.
